Advancing Virtual Fencing on Public Lands

This workshop brings together a panel of virtual fence vendors, public lands managers, and producers who can speak to the current state of technology adoption, functionality, and innovative uses on public lands while focusing on utilizing grazing planning and rotational grazing in conjunction with virtual fencing. After updates on the current state of technology and adoption, the second part of the workshop will focus on how virtual fencing technology can be used to support and advance grazing planning and management for forage growth and species composition.

Virtual fencing provides the opportunity to manage livestock more effectively on challenging landscapes that are managed for multiple uses. But this technology also requires a knowledgeable grazier and livestock manager who understands the needs of the land and the animals to use the technology appropriately. Exploring this integration of grazing planning and technology to help more effective adoption of virtual fencing in New Mexico is the workshop’s primary goal. Organized by the education teams at Quivira Coalition and Holistic Management International in collaboration with the Foundation for America’s Public Lands, come to this workshop to learn about the state of virtual fence technology and ways to utilize this powerful resource and forage management tool.
