Putting Carbon to Work

Dave Lawrence, founder of Land and Carbon, will describe how putting carbon to work helps ranchers, farmers, and state land managers move beyond land restoration to land transformation. The presentation will describe the science behind this approach, providing examples of putting carbon to work on a 1400-acre ranch in southeast Saskatchewan and State trust land in the Colorado San Luis Valley. Putting carbon to work not only involves increased yields and productivity but also provides other benefits including enhanced soil health and biodiversity as well as water retention. The presentation will include an overview of the intersection of land transformation and revenue for landowners and lessees. Potential collaboration opportunities in New Mexico among the New Mexico State Land Office, organizations supporting regenerative agriculture and land conservation, New Mexico ranchers and farmers, and the private sector will be explored.
